چکیده

Multicasting has become an important part of current networking technologies. To accommodate the multicasting traffic, switches in ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks need to be able to support multicasting. In multicast ATM switches, usually there are many cells contending for the same output port resources at the same time. This may lead to serious performance degradation. In the past, many special output port components are proposed to solve this problem. However, most of these approaches alleviate the output port overflowing problem without considering the output port congestion or the internal routing blocking problem. Especially when the switch fabric is based on the banyan-like network, these two problems will seriously degrade the switch performance. In this paper, we propose a pre-scheduling mechanism to precede the multicast switch. This mechanism will completely eliminate the problems mentioned above. Two architectures are designed to implement this mechanism. Analysis and simulations show that our design performs quite well. key words: ATM switch, multicasting, monotone sequence

Tetris Models for Multicast Switches

This paper presents a uni ed approach to the analysis of schedulers for input-queued multicast ATM switches. It is shown that the general multicast scheduling problem can be mapped onto a variation of the popular blockpacking game Tetris. Within this common framework, one is able to describe and analyze any multicast scheduling policy in an intuitive and geometric fashion. One such policy TATRA...

Multicast Traffic Scheduling Based On High-Speed Crossbar Switches

The tremendous growth of the Internet coupled with newly emerging applications has created a vital need for multicast traffic support by backbone routers and ATM switches. In this paper, we first introduce the multicast traffic scheduling problem. We focus our study on the multicast traffic scheduling in crossbar based input queued (IQ) switches. Due to the centralized scheduling complexity in ...

Efficient Multicast Support in High-Speed Packet Switches

The tremendous growth of the Internet coupled with newly emerging applications has created a vital need for multicast traffic support by backbone routers and ATM switches. Fuzzy Logic Based Cell Scheduling For Input Bu ered ATM Switches

This paper presents a fuzzy logic based ATM cell scheduling technique for input buuered non-blocking (ATM) switches. Simulation results indicate that such scheduling signiicantly reduces the average wait time for high priority cells when compared with single and multiple priority FIFO buuers. Simulations were run on an actual trace of ATM video cells generated by an ATM camera. These ATM video ...
